Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is one of the largest single-day giving movements in the world! This year, we have 3 incredible partners that have come together to make our Giving Tuesday campaign special. Normally, we run a digital campaign, but with communities needing connection and support demands growing, we thought an in-person Giving Tuesday event would be beneficial for all 🤗

We have two matching donation sponsors, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation (realtors Doyle and Jaclyn Childs from Royal LePage Coast Capital Realty as well as Royal LePage Duncan Agents Elizabeth Biberger, Michelle Nelford, Jeff Hunter and Meredith Prescott as a group) and the Garden House Foundation, who have generously agreed to match every donation dollar for dollar until we reach our goal of $20,750.

This year's campaign is going toward CWAV's Stopping the Violence counselling program that helps women experiencing violence and abuse find peace, strength, and a way forward through longer one-on-one and group counselling sessions. This program has an average waitlist time of 18 months and last year, we served 240 women. With a successful Giving Tuesday campaign, CWAV will expand programming to reach more women in need and decrease wait times for essential counselling services. No donation is too small! Every dollar will help create hope for someone in your community.

The Duncan Garage Cafe has graciously offered to host us as we connect with donors, community members with questions about accessing our services, and anyone interested in learning about our 25 programs. Every donation, in person and online, will be entered to win a gift basket, and each donation above $20 will receive a tax receipt 💜

We will have goodies, a live meter which will be filled with each donation toward our goal, CWAV staff, sponsors, and resources in the Forest Room at the Garage from 9 AM-1:30 PM on December 3rd. Grab a delicious treat from the bakery and make a change with your change in your community this December 3rd! ✨️

Candlelight Vigil Walk for the Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Cowichan Women Against Violence Society will be having a vigil walk this year on December 6th, which is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

This is an annual vigil we hold to honour those lost to gender-based violence, but it is also a day that remembers the lives of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal over 30 years ago who lost their lives to violence, misogyny, and hatred:

Geneviève Bergeron
Hélène Colgan
Nathalie Croteau
Barbara Daigneault
Anne-Marie Edward
Maud Haviernick
Maryse Laganière
Maryse Leclair
Anne-Marie Lemay
Sonia Pelletier
Michèle Richard
Annie St-Arneault
Annie Turcotte
Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz

We will open the vigil with words from CWAV's Elder in Residence, Auntie Linda, and some of our trauma counsellors will follow.

The walk itself will be on the sidewalk on a route through Downtown Duncan. We will have candles for everyone and will offer light refreshments after the walk. The Vigil starts at 6pm at the 246 Evans Street building
