Sunny CWAV Summary
The weather is hot and bright, so let’s stay cool together!
Quarterly Highlights
Annual General Meeting
This year, CWAVS increased services to hundreds more individuals across 25 programs. Our dedicated staff worked tirelessly to help as many people in need as possible and CWAVS has plans to expand services in the 2024/2025 fiscal year. Salmon Puppet Performance
On July 26th, Indigenous artists and youth performed with the giant salmon puppet during the 39 Days of July at Charles Hoey Park.
Through the Healthy Relationships Program, the dedication of Indigenous youth and artists, and the generous funding from the Telus Friendly Future Foundation, this project was put together in a week before the performance!
CWAVS is currently looking for a more permanent display of the salmon puppet and is connecting with other organizations that would like the puppet to be part of their events and celebrations.
If you would like to learn more about the project, connect with the Healthy Relationships team by calling 250 748 7000 and asking for Robin or Tin Yan.
Honouring Community Grief Workshop
This May CWAV partnered with Cowichan Hospice and other local service providers to make the grief workshop possible. Over three days, people in our community gathered to share their experiences with grief and to work through trauma with counsellors, elders, and each other. We hope to run this event again in the near future, and if you would like to join the planning process for the next workshop, please connect with Tina at Cowichan Hospice by emailing frontdesk@cowichanhospice.org
Upcoming Events
CWAVS Burger & Beer Fundraiser!
On September 26th, join us for a delicious fundraiser! For just $25, enjoy a tasty handmade burger, a refreshing cold drink, and an evening of camaraderie.
The event will feature a silent auction, live entertainment, and a chance to connect with the dedicated CWAVS staff. All proceeds will benefit CWAVS’ counselling programs, which provide essential support to women and children impacted by abuse.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to enjoy great food and drink while making a meaningful impact in our community. Let’s come together on September 26th from 4-7 pm to share a meal and support those in need. Thank you so much for your support!
Walking Group
Join CWAVS for an incredible walking series. Connect with others while exploring the healing properties of enjoying nature. These walks will be led by CBVS counsellor, Carli.
Participants don’t need to commit to any number of walks, just register for the ones you want to attend! CWAVS can offer limited transportation, but if that transportation has reached capacity, additional participants are more than welcome to meet the group at the hike location.
Call Carli at 250 748 7000 extension 105 to register.
Gratitude
Thank you, Sunfest!
And a huge THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly selling 50/50 tickets at Sunfest on August 2nd! Because of their dedication and hard work in the blazing heat, we raised an amazing $3,338 for CWAVS programming and the same for the Laketown Ranch Benevolent Society. Your efforts will make a great impact on our community.
CWAVS as an organization couldn't do this important work without the kindness and commitment of our incredible staff and volunteers. Your efforts inspire others to be the change they want to see in the world.
Thank you Sunfest for having us! We loved spending time with your awesome team and the festival goers who also made this successful fundraising initiative possible.
Stand With Pride
Thank you to the Cowichan Pride Society for making space for local queer artists and supportive service providers to take part in celebrating the diversity in our community. At the event, CWAVS promoted our new “Find Your Pride” program, which was a huge success this summer. We hope to create more inclusive programming in the near future with the guidance of LGBTQIA2S+ staff and community members.
